The hangry joes Origin Story

It all started in a small kitchen in Franklin, Indiana, where founder Joe Magruder spent every weekend perfecting his signature hot chicken recipe. Friends kept showing up uninvited — not for the company, but for the chicken. That's when Joe knew he was onto something special.

The name "Hangry Joe's" came naturally. His friends always said they got hangry just thinking about his chicken, and Joe's personality was as fiery as his spice blend. In 2018, after years of recipe refinement and a successful pop-up run, Hangry Joe's opened its doors at 200 Paris Dr, Franklin, IN.

"We don't just make food — we make memories. Every piece of chicken that leaves our kitchen has to meet one standard: would I be proud to eat this myself?"

Today, Hangry Joe's has grown from a single location into a beloved brand serving customers across the United States. Our hangry joe's hot chicken formula remains unchanged — fresh, never frozen chicken, hand-breaded daily and fried to perfection in our signature blend of spices.

The Backyard Begins

Joe Magruder starts experimenting with Nashville-style hot chicken recipes in his Franklin, IN backyard. Neighbors and friends quickly become obsessed, begging for batches every weekend.

2017

Pop-Up & Food Truck Launch

Hangry Joe's launches as a weekend food truck at Franklin's farmer markets and local events. Lines wrap around the block. Within three months, every batch sells out in under an hour.

2018

First Brick & Mortar Opens

The dream becomes real. Hangry Joe's opens its first restaurant at 200 Paris Dr, Franklin, IN 46131. Opening day features a 2-hour line and a complete sellout before 3 PM.

2020

Award-Winning Recognition

Hangry Joe's receives "Best Hot Chicken" recognition from Indiana food critics and is featured in regional food publications. The brand's signature 12-heat-level system gains national attention.

2022

Catering & Online Ordering

Hangry Joe's launches full catering services and an online ordering platform, bringing hangry joe's hot chicken to events, offices, and homes across the United States.
